About Us

Washington's Trail - 1753 was a project started in 2000 in Butler County, PA.  Soon after the group expanded to encompass all of western Pennsylvania, from the Maryland/Pennsylvania border in the south, to Fort LeBoeuf in Waterford, Erie County, PA.   The group is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a Board of Directors and a very active Steering Committee that meets approximately 6-8 times a year.  The goal of the founding committee was to teach and commemorate the importance of George Washington's trip and his narrowly escaping being shot and killed by an Indian guide. While originally focusing on Butler County's role in this important part of history, the logo was designed to be used throughout Washington's route from Williamsburg, VA to Ft. LeBoeuf in Pennsylvania. The first series of signs through Butler County were installed August 2003 and surrounding counties followed soon thereafter.
